Exhaustion

This Summer is kicking my butt!!  I don’t know about the rest of you, but I seem to be a thousand times busier these days than I was during the school year.

I feel like all I do is run from one camp to another, drag the kids to swim lessons, and squeeze in karate several times a week.  Charlotte has revolted against nap time which makes the evening, well, hell.  I’m running errands, trying to keep up with mountains of laundry, and doing everything I can to work on my Prospectus outline in time for my writing retreat.

The kids start back to school in just over a month so now I’m trying to watch deals and squeeze in all the back-to-school shopping in between growth spurts.  I’m exhausted.

My dear in-laws who usually watch the kids for me when I’m in class are off enjoying the wilds of Alaska and I can’t wait for them to come home!!  I just need a day…an afternoon to, I don’t know, breathe a bit.  Next time they want to travel I feel like shouting ‘Don’t leave me with the babies!!’  My mother has offered to take them for a week or two this summer.  If they were old enough to fly by themselves I’d totally consider it.  I have trouble letting them go to the mailbox without supervision, so I may be a ways away from sending them on a fly piece of metal by themselves.

No matter.  It doesn’t help my current exhaustion, but it’s a nice thought.

Perhaps I should become one of those Redbull moms…

The Dorky Kids

Subtitled: So you slip then you slide? I don’t get it!

They’re my dorky kids.
And I love them to bits!

I wonder if list making is consider an OCD behavior…

Since I’ll be starting back to school full time in the Fall in what will lovingly be known as Pursuit of a Ph. D., I decided it might be a good idea to make a list for the Summer.    I have a ton of stuff that I want to get done, so many things I need to accomplish, and numerous things to prep if I intend to limit the number of freak-out moments I’m destined to have.

Every good mommy starts with a list, right!?
Don’t answer that.
So, I’m forcing myself to make the list in hopes that this will motivate me to get off my keister and get on it!
Goals for Summer 2009
By: MamaNeena
  • Find, print, and place coordinating photos in the baby books of each of my kids.
  • Add necessary numbers, email addresses, and information to my Blackberry.
  • Find and interview the perfect babysitter for the children on the off chance that my in-laws decided to run away in their RV and are unavailable to watch the children.
  • Lose 10-15 pounds (specifically in the face and belly)
  • Update my wardrobe so that I look and feel a bit more professional and a bit less mommy-fied.
  • Find and purchase the perfect ‘school bag.’  Feel free to provide any and all feedback here considering I’m ready to buy all three of these and many others I saw.  Yummy!

  • Help the children learn phone skills including, but not limited to, which button is ‘talk,’ which button is ‘hang up,’ and how to actually answer should it ring.
  • Finish the 8 books that are currently on my nightstand.
  • Attempt, at least once, to go away overnight with my husband.
I better quit adding stuff.  Summer actually ends at the beginning of August around here.
Crap.

I’d say it’s officially summer

I’d say it’s officially summer

The countdown is on!

I am beyond relieved to know that Mia only has two days left of preschool this year. While I have loved her teachers, her school, and what she has learned, I will be overjoyed to not make that drive anymore! The school is just far enough away to be considered a pain in the ass. It has been tough to get three kids dressed and out the door by 8:50 every morning. Their schools for next year are much closer to the house and will make my day just a bit easier.

As I began to think about school ending and summer beginning, I decided to make a list of goals that I have for the summer. These are just some little things (and a few big things) that I would like to accomplish before school begins in the fall. Hopefully I can get through quite a few of these things.

  • Teach Mia to buckle herself in the booster seat. She’s almost got it now, so the end of summer is certainly do-able.
  • Teach Mia to give herself a bath/shower (with supervision)
  • Teach Jake to get himself dressed-start to finish
  • Get myself into a good workout routine
  • Create a master chore list so that everyone in the house can pitch in!
  • Create a master cleaning list for myself (just so I have an idea what to do when)
  • Paint the master bathroom and bedroom (pending relocation possibility)
  • Help the kids decide on what “extra” activity they would like to participate in by giving them the chance to experience a few
  • Figure out Photoshop – I have no clue about that one!
  • Read the numerous book on my nightstand and restock the nightstand with new books to read
  • Stick to my writing routine
  • Find the right haircut…more on this in another post…

I think I can get through all this if I stay focused. I have a feeling, however, that after the kids have been home all day for a few weeks my goal will be significantly different. They may read something like:

  • Just survive until the kids go back to school!!!
  • Pre-order my embroidered straight jacket.

We’ll see…
